Site Update

This site will be updated shortly. I need to add some more images for the blog, and I think my mother-in-law is working on a new design. Have to ask Jess about that.

House Update

We have been super busy. We’ve moved into the house. Finally… a month later… we got our key back from the builder. The carpet was replaced ‘what a mess’ and various painting, caulking, fixing, and re doing had to be done. We’ve already painted most of the rooms. We took advantage of the fact we didn’t have to be careful with our old carpet. Painting without having to worry about a drop cloth was nice. It’s finally starting to feel like home. I’ve been burning candles as much as I can and slowly have started putting up the few nick-knacks we have. The house is very bright. It’s so clean and relaxing.

We’ve been quite the handy couple. Ryan’s been quickly learning how to use various tools. We’ve found that Home Depot is a very very evil place. We attempted to install hardware on our cabinets in the kitchen ourselves. We thought that was a good idea, but it’s turned out to be a bad one. The first handle went on a little crooked and the second one is level but the holes are too close together so the actual hardware won’t go on. Soooo now we’re going to pay a pro to come in and fix our mess. But other than that and the scare of me thinking I broke my sink in the master ‘long story’ things have been going well.

I’ll try and post more later but don’t hold your breath.

Job Search Continues

My temp assignment that I\’m on right now ends at the end of October, so I\’m already starting to look for a new job. I hate having to go through this. I would be just fine doing temp work if we could afford me not working steadily. Really, if I just go job to job that would work to but you can never count on the money it generates. I was hoping to get a perm job here, but there was someone internal that applied and of course got it. I went on an interview last week for something, and was told that I am the leading candidate, but that he\’s continuing to interview! I don\’t get it! In the interview he pretty much told me that I was *TOO* smart and *TOO* pretty! So due to the fact that I was too darn good he\’s still interviewing.. even though the pay, responsibilities, hours, and location all work great for me. It\’s SOOO frustrating. This is not the first time that I\’ve been too smart and pretty for a job. I mean how stupid is that?! I need to be some fat nasty slob who can\’t count to 3 and then I\’ll have a job! woohoo! *rolls around in dirt*

Save a Lizard Day

Where I work, we have this really \”hotelish\” carpet. Basically I could recreate the Exxon Valdez accident in my cube, I dont think anyone would notice, the carpet just makes it all blend in.

Walking in today, i saw some movement on the floor near the ladies room. I bent over, and noticed it was a little lizard. A skink or anole of some sort, but it blended in the carpet very well. I couldnt see it unless it moved. I attempted to herd it out of the way, but noticed that it liked being in the middle of the busy hall, so i captured it. The onlookers, both of them, thought I had lost some money. When I told the AP girl that it was a lizard, the \”eeewwwww\” soon ensued. I took the little fella outside and released him right next to a cricket, so I guess I was his personal maitre\’d, and i think i gave him a good table, even though he didnt have reservations.

So, my kindness, or boredom depending on how you look at it, has made me wonder. Would everyone save the lizard? Would you ignore it? Or would you go out of your way to step on it?

I declare today SAVE A LIZARD DAY

Life Update

We are managing to stay busy. Last week was a lot of running around. My dad got a look at the progression of the house. We had Ryan’s family in town that we never get to see and that was nice to have a visit with them. I don’t know that group well, but they’re easy to get along with. Now I feel more comfortable in making a trip up to see them.

I’m applying for a permanent position here at ACEP. I don’t know if it will end up working out for me or not. I really enjoy the work environment here. Everyone does a really good job and I can tell that they’re happy. They seem to treat their people very well. That goes much further with me than actual job duties. It would be a bit of a drive from the house, however, most of the people working here are from Keller. I’m not going to stress about it. If it doesn’t end up working out for me here, there has got to be something else out there.

We’re going to be attending NBAA again this year. That’s coming up in October. I’m really looking forward to it. We’re going to hit the static display this year at the airport and walk a few of the planes. Last year we didn’t know that was going on until too late. We’re also going to Discovery Cove. We are going to hit SeaWorld too. This will be a marine vacation this time. I’ve researched a bunch of the different restaurants in the area. We should be eating good! And I’m not talking about the horrible touristy stuff, which is all around where we’ll be. We’re staying at a much better hotel, location wise, than we did last year. Last year although the hotel was very nice, it was in a not so nice neighborhood. The closest eatery was a diner type place that when we walked it we could feel the grease floating in the air.

Ryan’s high school reunion is going to be the same weekend we get back from Orlando. We’re both looking forward to it because we’re very comfortable with where we are in life. It always feels good to be able to go “neaner neaner” to those who used to torment you in high school.

It’s Raining Shoes

I was driving to work today and noticed a work boot in the middle of the road. I don’t know why it struck me as odd. This is a normal sight. I usually see flip-flops, boots, sneakers, hats, shirts, underwear, etc. on the roads. I just don’t understand how it gets there in the first place. Why is it that it’s always just one shoe? How is it that underwear finds its way on the side of the road? Is there an underground group of people that travel around not wearing any underpants because they’ve thrown them out the window? Are shoes that unimportant that they serve a better purpose on the highways? Hats I can somewhat understand. They can blow off. Kids all over of course throw toys out of cars all the time in some ritualistic sacrifice to the toy gods. I can’t think of a better way to get a new toy myself. What kind of people is it exactly that accidentally loose a shoe on the side of the highway?

Doctors

from Anne Rice\’s Servant of the Bones: I understood something further about them. They regarded their science as omnipotent. Science was the explanation not only for me but for anything and everything. In other words, they were materialists who beheld their science as magic.

The World of Low Fat

I was in the lunchroom just now and overheard some women talking about different recipes that were low fat. I think I’ve been greatly influenced by my dad’s philosophy. If it’s low fat it’s not worth eating. Ryan and I go through 4 sticks of butter at least every month. I like to use salt ‘thank you dad’ and sugar is your friend. As I’ve been realizing with my recent attempt at dieting, as long as you do things in moderation you’re fine. I still eat all the same food that I used to; I just don’t eat as much. I am constantly trying to monitor my intake. Just trying to make sure that I’m still hungry when I’m eating, and you don’t want to get full. This advice coming from Ryan, who has the fastest metabolism, I’ve ever seen.

Back to low fat. I’ve tried at various times throughout my life to cook and eat low fat and it’s just disgusting. Not to mention that a lot of the time the chemicals and extra processing that they do to things to make them low fat ends up being worse for you. And I must point out that every time you hear something on the news about how salt is bad for you, it’s just months later that you hear about how salt is good for you and how people have been dying due to lack of it. ‘replace the word salt with: eggs, sugar, milk, beef, butter, cheese’ I’ve only got one life to live and regular food is way too good to waste my time with low fat crap.

[Note from Ryan: Mmmmmmmmm..beeeeeef....*drool*]

Sandals

Just when you thought the Sandals fiasco is over. We were contacted via email from a woman who went to Sandals also for her honeymoon and had a horrible time. She’s contacted a lawyer but isn’t having much luck. We spoke to one ourselves and it was very discouraging. We tried to dispute the charge with the credit cards however, I really don’t think they even read the documentation that we gave them or paid any attention at all to what the problem was, and we didn’t get our money back. Any efforts we made to resolve the dispute with Sandals lead nowhere. Offering someone 2 nights free stay might legally get them off the hook, but my question is why in the world would we want to spend the thousands of dollars on airfare just to go down to a crappy place again! We are going to contact her ‘which we were supposed to do this weekend and forgot’ and see what she’s up to. It’s horrible that there are so many people that have had such a bad time on their honeymoon due to the incompetence of this “resort.”
