WP Plugins move to Google Code

December 30, 2008

As I have gotten more and more involved in the WordPress world, I have released a couple of plugins, working on several more, and have already learned a few things.

One, it is always a good idea to release early, and release often, except where WordPress release system is invloved.  The system is based on SubVersion, which has been great getting to learn, but it lulls you into making some assumptions.  The problem with this system, is the moment you upload code to the repository, it releases publicly.  While that is fine if it is a small plugin and your first release should be public, it is not a good thing for larger projects that are going to require a lot of testing and iterations to get it ready for an actual public release.  WordPress does disclaimer their system, saying it is not a hosting service just a listing service.  Which begs the question, “Why are you using SVN?”.  Probably because it is familiar to most people that will be contributing code.

With all that in mind, I have moved my development versions over to Google Code.  It is a hosting service, is faster than Sourceforge, and I like the interface a lot better; it is a lot more clean and easy to understand.  All my WordPress plugins will be there, under the project SuiteX, and eventually the other projects I have going, like LadderX will move over there as well.

This doesnt really affect any of you much, except for questions/concerns/bugs/requests, I ask that you go over to the Issue Tracker on Google and post there.  It will keep everything a bit more organized, than random comments on this website or on the WordPress forums which do a horrible job of notification or even categorization.

Per the usual, if you have questions, please just ask.

Job Hunting

December 23, 2008

Comments Off

For those of you that didn’t know, I am officially looking for a job.  Yes, I have left Caris.  I wasn’t there too long, sadly, but I suppose it was time to move along.  I learned a few things, have some more experience, and paid the bills, what more do you need from a job?

So, although it is the worst time of year in a horrible economy to be looking, I am looking for a job.  The typical, Application Development Manager or Project Manager position, really not further east than Irving with a few exceptions.

And to Caris, well not the company, but the people there, to my friends, I will miss working with you, it was fun and great building PathConnect together and watching it grow and make the customers’ day.  I will remeber the experiences and enjoy looking back.  Good luck in all that you do in the future.

2000 Castello D’Albola Chianti Classico Reserva

2000 Castello D’Albola Chianti Classico Reserva
Sangiovese
$29
Score: 93

We first had Castello D’Albola Chianti Classico Reserva when eating at Sambuca’s in Addison.  It paired wonderfully with the steak I had and was decent with the herb chicken Jessica ate.

That was several years ago, and several cases of this wine later, it is official….we have finally polished off the final bottle.  Feel free to cry, we almost did.

This is an excellent CCR, but a little difficult to find in your local retailer, around here at least.  It, of course, pairs the best with red meat and other strong flavors, like herb encrusted chicken, or pork dishes.  Strong currant flavors with a woody aftertaste.  This is an excellently made wine that needs to be consumed now.  It is ready and probably a little past peak already, but still highly recommended and ready to drink.

If you want more information, check out the CellarTracker page on this great wine!

PHPX License Update

December 6, 2008

Per the usual, just posting that the PHPX License has changed very slightly due to some recent lack of understanding of basic OSS principles.  Just clearing up the area about warranties.  Yes, Rebel and GMORG, I am aware this has been in production for almost a decade without issue, however, everyday is new and brings new things.

As usual, the current license applies to all new downloads, changes, forks, etc.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Dad…

My dad has a domain, (http://www.cmmeinzer.com) but uses it almost totally for emails.  I have tried to show him the evils of WordPress and blogging, but to no avail.

That said, and in the spirit of my constant giving him a hard time, I have highjacked his webpage!  Since it is on my server, I thought, “What the heck, not like he will ever do anything with it.”  So, it is now mine! (Insert evil laugh here).  Maybe he will see what you can do with a spiffy domain, but maybe not.  Either way, it is better than a dumn “Coming Soon” site that will never change.

Texans….we are a little odd, but we love y’all nonetheless

Here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about folks from Texas

  • If someone in a Lowe’s store offers you assistance and they don’t work there, you may live in Texas
  • If you’ve worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you may live in Texas
  • If you’ve had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Texas
  • If ‘Vacation’ means going anywhere south of Dallas for the weekend, you may live in Texas
  • If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Texas
  • If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in Texas
  • If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave both unlocked, you may live in Texas
  • If you carry jumper cables in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in Texas
  • If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph — you’re going 80 and everybody’s passing you, you may live in Texas
  • If you find 60 degrees ‘a little chilly,’ you may live in Texas

Dont’ Mess with Mother Nature

July 24, 2008

All this talk lately about being “Green” is just crazy.  Why did it have to become trendy in order for everyone to start being at least a little environmentally conscious?  We all live here, there are finite amounts of everything ranging from corn to water to cows.  In fact, the only thing that seems to be fairly infinite is the ability of the human species to breed and take over more resources.

Nature, by definition, lives in balance with itself.  It understands supply and demand better than Wall Street.  If there is a lot of rain, the antelope are abundant, and then there are more lions until the populations stabilize, or another factor comes in like a grass fire that kills off a lot of food for the antelope, then the lions starve and their population dwindles.  It’s a whole Circle of Life type of thing.  There are only two organisms on Earth that do not really follow this law:  humans and viruses.  Both reproduce out of balance with their surroundings and are willing and capable of destroying their very habitat (and eventually themselves).

Jess and I have always been pretty “green”, because, we respect Mother Nature, and so should you:
