Amateur Web Design

There are a lot of amateur web designers out there. They post on forums, and advertise freakishly cheap prices, like $150 for a website. The differences between them and those of us that do this professionally are too many to be named. Obviously the pricing is a huge difference, they charge for an entire website what my hourly rate is. But then again, I don’t really make just the brochure 4 page websites, we actually write custom applications that do very complex things ranging from e-commerce to mission critical business processes.

Another huge difference is the professionals actually stick to standards and try to keep up with trends and new technology, unlike the 15 year old designers working from mom’s house. I found out recently about this “company” (LR Web Design). First, they call HTML “coding” which is a complete misnomer. And then talked down Dreamweaver, and yet their “code” is at least 10 years out of date. No CSS, inline font tags, UPPERCASE tags, image maps for menus, and tables for very basic positioning. Here is another one of their websites: http://knbcolo.webs.com/ . They don’t even use a true host, but a free website company. Let me fill you in, none of this is what you want your company to have on its website. It is unprofessional and doesn’t really put your best foot forward. But if you want a slow loading website on a free host with no custom anything, by all means go with one of these people. Otherwise, go with someone with training, experience, and credentials, as well as a portfolio with real clients you have heard of.

Like wine & cars, you get what you pay for with websites. I wouldn’t want my company looking cheap.

Driving While Shaving….Down there!

Let me get this straight…You were pulled over because of a felony (a hit and run), and you were driving on a suspended license. The reason you had the hit and run is because you were trimming up “down there” on your way to see you boyfriend, and letting your ex-husband drive from the passenger side while you were shaving? You get the first 2010, “You are a total moron” award. Too bad you didn’t off yourself and remove your genes from the human race, because let’s face it, you are too stupid to contribute in a constructive manner to the species.

And in case you were wondering, she is not hot in the least.

I have had some pretty bad first dates back when I was dating people other than Jessica, but let me tell you, nothing compares to this poor dude. He has the worst of it all, and I can sympathize, I hate dropping a duece in a public toilet. It is just a sin against nature or something, but I hate doing it. I dont know how this could go much worse. At least I have never been chased out with a knife.

I am a pretty big guy, not fat, but very tall and broad shouldered and the little airline seats suck for me, and more so for the person next to me…but this is fricking ridiclous!

This is just crazy. How can this be safe? How did he even get on the plane with only one seat and not three? I know AA is retarded, hence the reason I do not fly them anymore, but dear God, someone do something!

Self Symmetry

My good friend Kat over at Self Symmetry recently posted a really nice blog entry thanking me for some work I did for her on that website. So here is the post, not to toot my own horn, but hopefully get some of our friends more interested in a great yoga teacher! ~ Ryan

With the help of an amazing IT guy, Ryan Meinzer, I am proud to announce the relaunch of my website. Actually, it’s just the shopping cart area of my site. BUT — I do hope you’ll check it out (and Ryan…he’s fast, efficient, easy to understand (he is an IT guy afterall), and can totally hook you up if you need any help in this department. And, he writes a really good blog too!)

Getting back to me…haha As you can tell by the name of my company, Self Symmetry, I’m all about finding balance. I believe that when you find balance; physically, mentally, and spiritually, that you are completely and wholly healthy! I’m also all about feeling good. If we can get ourselves feeling good all the time, then our lives will be free flowing and easy. (I’m not saying that we shouldn’t experience any other emotion, but just that our dominate state should be good and positive.)

With my strong belief in finding balance and feeling good I teach yoga, make jewelry, and now this blog. If you’re in Dallas/Plano, I would love to have you come take a class of mine. See my schedule for details. If you’re not in Dallas, then just go check out a class in your ‘hood. It’s really amazing, transforming, and healing.

If you’re interested in jewelry, browse around my new shopping cart. I hand make everything and use semi precious gemstones. Gemstones have healing properties to them. They are from the earth, so they hold all kinds of positive energy…making you look good and feel good! I attach a card to each piece of jewelry describing the stones used and what they do for you energetically. Because of this, they make awesome, thoughtful gifts (Mother’s Day coming up…hint, hint). If you’re reading this, then you found my blog. Congrats! I would say this blog is on the spiritual side. It’s about my attempt to live life to the fullest, and all the things that I’ve learned and am still learning.

We noticed tonight that we recently had some traffic to the site from the google search ‘missy moo’. This peaked our curiosity. What other missy moos are out there?

Well, it’s a popular name for a cat. Missy moo is Oober Yuckems ‘ not so secret admirer. Somewhere along the lines we ended up buying a bib from Australia (fyi-delivery by sea takes 2-3 months! we opted for air). We found some cute onesies (Link Removed on Remote Site) for identical twins, and the true meaning of missy moo.

We love to read. From day one we’ve read to Illianna. One of her favorite books is Peek-A-Zoo. It’s been a great book that’s grown with her. It’s more of an activity book. Dr Seuss has been great as well. My Many Colored Days is not a well known Dr. Seuss. Illianna has loved Oh The Places You’ll Go from when she was little. I think the illustrations catch her eye. It plays with black and white and bold patterns, which is good for babies. Recently Horton Hears A Who was turned into a movie. I haven’t seen the movie, but the book has a great message. Your tounge will get twisted when you read Double Trouble in Walla Walla, and The Cranky Sun has beautiful artwork. A Day With No Crayons is very creative and helps encourage children to see art in everyday things.

We live in a fairly new neighborhood with all the amenities we could want. We have a water park, lots of trails to walk, play grounds, a spray park, good schools, and freaking paper hanging doorbell ringing sales folk. More than once in the last couple of weeks, Illi was down for less than 15 minutes when the doorbell rings, Mydrinn goes crazy, and it is just some moron selling something stupid with the same pitch everyone else uses. “I was just over at __________ (some generic name)’s house, and she loved this and bought a ton. But first, let me bore you about my company and other crap you don’t care about.” I mean really, we don’t give a rat’s who bought what, assuming the rather dubious assertion is even true. They never take no for an answer, and just keep talking (I assume) after the door is closed.

So, we researched the laws of Fort Worth, and found out that putting up a “No Soliciting” sign means that anyone that puts anything on our door, or petitions us for any reason can incur a $500 dollar, per incident fine. The only people exempt are government officials. We looked around online for something tasteful (and affordable), couldn’t find one (this one came up on our search many times – yuck), so we just put up a paper sign in the window with the following:

No Soliciting
Violation of this notice may result in a $500 per incident fine.
City of Fort Worth (Ord. No. 15245, § 1, 9-17-02) & (Ord. No. 17829, § 1, 10-9-07)
This includes Handbills and Religious Petitioning

Hopefully that will get the point across. If not, I will just start turning everyone into to the City for code violations. We like our sleep around here, and our “guard dog” Mydrinn will not be deterred from his solemn duty, so do us all a favor, just go away, we aren’t buying anything from you anyways.
