Posting &You

Since I have added comments to this page, I thought it would be a good idea to make sure everyone knew the proper way to post, and have some decent instruction on how to post. So, with that in mind, here is a short movie for you: Posting & You

Avoid Hotels.com

I saw a commercial the other day for Hotels.com and thought I would go see what the deal was. They are a local company, I have driven by the building several times and thought if they could save me some money on my trip to Vegas then so be it. I found the hotel I wanted, ‘THEhotel’ and they had rooms available for the right dates, even when last week the hotel’s website was saying they were sold out for a day during our time there. I went ahead and made the reservations on Hotels.com since I had thought it was some deal for them. But just to be sure, I went over to the actual website and checked, and WHOA, they had rooms open for the right week as well, for less money. So I called Hotels.com to cancel or ask for a price adjustment, and here is where the fun begins.

Hotels.com does NOT make the same claim most travel sites do, that they will have the lowest published price. Travelocity, Expedia, and Vegas.com all have this guarantee, but not Hotels.com. And, they expected me to pay a $25 fee, even though the reservation was less than 5 minutes old, and I was under the impression they would match the price. The price on the hotel’s website was quite a bit lower, so I just ate the 25 bucks, happy not to give Hotels.com any money considering the rude customer service I received when asking my questions, and the uncompetitive lack of lowest price guarantee.

In short, when booking for a hotel, always just use their website or a travel agent you trust. Don’t waste your time on the “discount” websites that are just more trouble than they are worth, and not actually a discount.

Ryan is a Sith Lord

Ok, be honest, we all knew this. That is right, I am a Sith Lord in disguise. If you don’t know what I am talking about, please send me your IP address and credit card numbers, so I can ban you from this site for being ignorant and then charge your card because I need large amounts of VX gas to further my plots.

Curious if you are as evil as I? Well, you aren’t so don’t bother contemplating it, because you will just burn out the single brain cell you still have working, assuming you know what a Sith Lord is and you can still get to this site and use your credit card.

Word of the Day

Hebetude
\\HEB-uh-tood-; -tyood\\
noun
Mental dullness or sluggishness.

While too many Americans slouch toward a terminal funk of hebetude and sloth, Bendians race ahead with toned muscles, wide eyes and brains perpetually wired on adrenaline.
–\”Wild rides in the heart of central Oregon: Bent out of shape in Bend,\” Washington Times, August 11, 2001

Earlier on, when we merely democratized fame, we defended the right of any mouth-breather to rise from deserved obscurity on the strength of his God-given hebetude.
–Florence King, \”The misanthrope\’s corner,\” National Review, May 18, 1998

From that solitude, full of despair and terror, he was torn out brutally, with kicks and blows, passive, sunk in hebetude.
–Joseph Conrad, Nostromo

This word came up during a computer training class at work I endured today. It wasn\’t too horrible, but I must say I was quite concerned when the class started out with, \”This is your desktop. These pictures are icons. This is the start menu. This is how you turn off your computer.\” I\’m sorry but if you don\’t already know these things, you don\’t need to be working here.

Life Update

We are managing to stay busy. Last week was a lot of running around. My dad got a look at the progression of the house. We had Ryan’s family in town that we never get to see and that was nice to have a visit with them. I don’t know that group well, but they’re easy to get along with. Now I feel more comfortable in making a trip up to see them.

I’m applying for a permanent position here at ACEP. I don’t know if it will end up working out for me or not. I really enjoy the work environment here. Everyone does a really good job and I can tell that they’re happy. They seem to treat their people very well. That goes much further with me than actual job duties. It would be a bit of a drive from the house, however, most of the people working here are from Keller. I’m not going to stress about it. If it doesn’t end up working out for me here, there has got to be something else out there.

We’re going to be attending NBAA again this year. That’s coming up in October. I’m really looking forward to it. We’re going to hit the static display this year at the airport and walk a few of the planes. Last year we didn’t know that was going on until too late. We’re also going to Discovery Cove. We are going to hit SeaWorld too. This will be a marine vacation this time. I’ve researched a bunch of the different restaurants in the area. We should be eating good! And I’m not talking about the horrible touristy stuff, which is all around where we’ll be. We’re staying at a much better hotel, location wise, than we did last year. Last year although the hotel was very nice, it was in a not so nice neighborhood. The closest eatery was a diner type place that when we walked it we could feel the grease floating in the air.

Ryan’s high school reunion is going to be the same weekend we get back from Orlando. We’re both looking forward to it because we’re very comfortable with where we are in life. It always feels good to be able to go “neaner neaner” to those who used to torment you in high school.
